Driver: You Are The Wheelman, better known as Driver is a driving video game released by GT Interactive in 1999 and developed by Reflections. The game is the first game of the Drivers series, and is considered, by many, to be a starter of it's genre (other games of this genre include it sequels, the famous GTA series and many others).
Player controls officer Tanner in the game. Tanners is a cop who has gone undercover in order to infiltrate the mob. There are various missions like chasing another car, providing getaway for a bank job, delivering stolen cars, etc. Player can choose between some missions, but missions which are important for the storyline are inevitable. Depending on players choices of missions, the game can have two different endings. This makes the gameplay non-linear and gives the player the ability to make the decisions as he/she plays. There are four playable cities in the game, Miami, San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York (a part of the fifth city Newcastle is unlockable by a cheat). First two cities are always unlocked, and Los Angeles and New York need to be unlocked trough missions.
Game is designed to look like many car chase movies from the 60's and the 70's era.
Take a ride mode Take a ride let's the player to roam and explore all of the big cities. Since there are no objectives, players can fo what they want. Usually it involves chasing, but there are other options (like trying to drive by the book).
Director mode Once the chase, mission or a mini game is over, players can watch their replays (just like the chase scenes from the movies). There is a quick replay options in which the computers automaticaly generates the replay, and the director mode, in where players get to direct their own chase scenes
